Macromedia Flash MX 2004: Rich Media Design provides students with no prior Flash experience the knowledge and hands-on practice they need to create rich media containing animation, sound, and video.

The Rich Media Design Course introduces all of the concepts and ideas required for general Flash development. The student will learn how to employ Symbols, Animation, Actionscript, and Components to build interactive web content and CD based presentations. The FL10-04 course also places special emphasis on "best practice" techniques and design principles for effective Flash content creation.

FL11-04 Macromedia Flash MX 2004: Application Development (2 days)

Macromedia Flash MX 2004: Application Development provides students with no prior programming experience the knowledge and hands-on practice they need to build a rich Internet application with Flash. This course focuses on using screens, built-in components, behaviors, and data binding to quickly get students proficient in building Flash applications. The course also introduces the ActionScript language and teaches students fundamental programming constructs including loops, conditional logic, and functions.

FL12-04 Macromedia Flash MX 2004: Advanced Application Development (3 days)

Flash MX 2004: Advanced Application Development provides experienced Flash ActionScript programmers the knowledge and hands-on practice they need to build rich Internet applications with Flash. This course focuses on teaching students how to use ActionScript 2 and the Flash application framework to build a real-world rich internet application interacting dynamically with the user and retrieving and sending data to XML files, web services, and ColdFusion, Java, or C# classes on the server.

Note: This course has similar content to the Flash MX 2004: Application Development for Programmers course but is for people who already have experience with Flash and the ActionScript language. It follows the Flash MX 2004: Application Development course.

Note: This course has similar content to the Advanced Macromedia Flash MX 2004: Application Development course but is for experienced programmers who have little or no experience with Flash.

FL14-04 Macromedia Flash MX 2004: Advanced Rich Media Design

Advanced Rich Media Design with Macromedia Flash MX 2004 teaches Macromedia Flash users principles and techniques for designing compelling Macromedia Flash sites: how to lay out pages in Flash, use color and text effectively, work with multiple image types, make Macromedia Flash usable, and incorporate sound and video. This course primarily uses the Macromedia Flash Timeline to create content.

Course topics include:

  • Integration with Fireworks, Freehand, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Site and page structure
  • Using color effectively
  • Addressing Macromedia Flash text issues, such as antialiasing and embedded fonts
  • Advanced image techniques, including optimization, movie clip masking
  • Dynamic loading of JPEG's and other SWF's
  • Linking items from the library
  • Structuring Macromedia Flash MX documents with the Timeline
  • Incorporating sound and video effectively
  • Using interactive text
  • Building hybrid Flash/HTML pages in Dreamweaver (Round trip Illustrator, Photoshop or Fireworks to Flash and then to Dreamweaver)


Prerequisites: FL10 or permission of the instructor and familiarity with other graphic programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Freehand) and terms.
